Mid-October saw J R Willoughby appearing
at the Grand Designs Show at the NEC. Turn out was huge and we were
overwhelmed with the interest in our products, especially our folding
sliding doors and roof lanterns.
We ran "Show Only"
offers that generated a lot of interest, and we're pleased to extend
these to anyone who attended the "Beat The Tax Man!" show, for further

Hardwood Conservatories
Our hardwood conservatories are manufactured primarily from grade one Mahogany and Sapele. Although there are a huge number of hardwoods that can be used in wooden conservatories we favour these for the structural elements of our bespoke conservatories due to their ability to withstand the outdoor elements, their beautiful grains and ability for our conservatory joiners and engineers to work them. Hardwoods such as beech are beautiful for internal features but are simply not durable enough for external use.
The natural oils found in Mahogany and Sapele hardwoods help them to withstand the harshest of British winters with the aid of applied treatments. Their resin content provides them with longevity compared to other woods. Both Mahogany and Sapele hardwoods display beautiful natural grains that have traditionally leant them to being widely used in the fine furniture trade and also the manufacture of musical instruments such as guitars. Our joinery team are experienced in getting the most from these hardwoods and further accentuating their features through our finishing processes.
All the timber that we use in the construction of our hardwood conservatories is supplied from responsibly managed and renewable forests from a variety of locations including the Ivory Coast and West Africa. Although we favour and recommend these hardwoods we can work with other timber if specified by our customers and have manufactured wooden conservatories and orangeries from Oak and other hardwood species.
We specialise in dealing with period properties and listed buildings where traditional hardwood
Edwardian and
Victorian conservatories are particularly suited. We offer consultation and assistance with local authority planning applications and ensure that your new hardwood conservatory meets with the correct guidelines and compliments your existing property.

Case Studies of Hardwood Conservatories that we
have built...
This
fine listed building in Oxfordshire
offered
the opportunity for us to create a garden conservatory purely for our
clients to relax, enjoy the gardens to this fine property, and
to host social evenings all the year round. It was imperative
that the proportions and styling of the main house were accurately
reflected in the new conservatory. After several revisions to our plans,
we achieved a result exactly to the requirements of our clients
and suited to those of the planners.
Opening off the basement of this
Greenwich town house, our clients use their conservatory for
relaxing and entertaining. This design included a specially
commissioned fitted dresser with built-in dishwasher and fridge,
to avoid the continuous trek two floors up to the kitchen whilst
entertaining guests.
