Mid-October saw J R Willoughby appearing
at the Grand Designs Show at the NEC. Turn out was huge and we were
overwhelmed with the interest in our products, especially our folding
sliding doors and roof lanterns.
We ran "Show Only"
offers that generated a lot of interest, and we're pleased to extend
these to anyone who attended the "Beat The Tax Man!" show, for further

Edwardian Conservatories
Edwardian
hardwood conservatories are a style that comes under the heading of traditional conservatory designs. The name of the style refers to the Edwardian architectural period during the reign of King Edward VII between 1901 and 1911. Although the reign of King Edward VII was relatively short compared to his predecessor, Queen Victoria, it saw a time of change regarding architectural design, and the conservatory was one of the periods lasting legacies.
Edwardian conservatory design saw a further push towards functionality, aiming for a lighter and airy feel to the construction with the use of more subdued lines and less ornamentation compared to previous
Victorian conservatories. Edwardian conservatories work to maximise the view of outside gardens for the occupants putting in as little detail to the glass walls as possible. Victorian conservatories typically have ornamental glass panels with three to five angles on their front, compared to the flat fronts of Edwardian conservatories.
Edwardian and
Victorian conservatories doe share the pitched roof design with an apex. Typically on both there is traditionally a set of ornamental ridges that resemble a crown.
The Edwardian style of conservatories are very popular with conservatory customers, architecturally it maximises space due to the symmetrical nature of the square or rectangular shape. This in itself creates the illusion of space which is further enhanced by the pitched glass roof which lets in more light. The lack of detailing namely in the window layout allows the occupants to view more of the exterior of the building more clearly.

Case Studies of Edwardian Conservatories that we
have built...
This fine listed building in Oxfordshire
offered
the opportunity for us to create a garden conservatory purely for our
clients to relax, enjoy the gardens to this fine property, and
to host social evenings all the year round. It was imperative
that the proportions and styling of the main house were accurately
reflected in the new conservatory. After several revisions to our plans,
we achieved a result exactly to the requirements of our clients
and suited to those of the planners.
Opening off the basement of this
Greenwich town house, our clients use their conservatory for
relaxing and entertaining. This design included a specially
commissioned fitted dresser with built-in dishwasher and fridge,
to avoid the continuous trek two floors up to the kitchen whilst
entertaining guests.
