our specification

At Willoughby, we appreciate that your conservatory or orangery should not only look beautiful, it must also stand the test of time. That's why we use only the finest materials and work to the highest specification, so you can enjoy your new room for many years to come.

Timber
We only use quality hardwood timber from responsible, well-managed sources. It is a pre-requisite that the timber is knot-free and extremely durable. Where applicable, it may be laminated to give additional stability to our conservatories and orangeries.

Aluminium
High quality, performance aluminium systems that combine aesthetic design with energy efficiency to meet the latest thermal insulation requirements, are utilised in all of our conservatories.

Glass
Safety glass conforming to BS6206 is fitted to doors, windows and roofs as standard. Double-glazed units consist of two leaves of 4mm toughened glass with a minimal 16mm air gap. The following options are available:

  • Low-emissivity coated glass is usually fitted as standard to our conservatories and orangeries as it improves the overall thermal efficiency of the glazing
  • Anti-sun glass provides shading in direct sunlight and is available in azure or clear
  • Self-clean glass reduces the amount of cleaning required, and the hydrophilic properties encourage rainwater to sheet down the glass, washing dirt away
  • Laminated glass lessens the effects of ultra-violet light, to improve security and sound insulation

Ironmongery
Premium quality fittings are used throughout our conservatories and orangeries. Finish options include polished brass, polished chrome, antique black and a range of handmade handles in a variety of finishes. Multi-point bolting systems are fitted to improve security, along with locking handles to the opening sashes and doors.

Ventilation
Roofs are designed with maintenance-free, purpose-made vents. These can be manually or electronically operated (usually controlled with or without rain sensors). Opening windows are normally top-hung on heavy-duty stainless steel friction stays, enabling them to be opened to any position without the use of a stay bar.

Finishes
Aluminium sections are electrostatic powder-coated and are available in more than 400 top quality RAL colours — pastel shades, metallic and anodised colours — in gloss and matt finishes. All joinery for our conservatories and orangeries goes through three grades of sanding: coarse, medium and fine. The hardwood timber is then treated with a water-borne primer and two spray coats of microporous paint, giving the equivalent of six brush-coats. A full range of colours and stains are available upon request.

Warranty
Willoughby is constantly reviewing materials and construction details. Our specification is subject to continual improvements. All work is covered by our comprehensive five-year guarantee. We do ask that the building is fully completed to our approved standards and is properly maintained at all times.
